Basketball fans and some NBA players have called for the contest logo to be changed in honor of the basketball icon Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash Sunday.
More than 135,000 people signed a petition through the "Change" platform to write petitions and claims, by Monday morning.
The NBA logo was marked in red, blue and white colors with a basketball player's shadow since 1969, as it was designed based on a famous image of former basketball player Jerry West.
"Kobe should be the new emblem for the NBA," said former basketball star Jamal Crawford on Twitter.
West was the general manager of the Los Angeles Lakers when he signed with Bryant to play for the team in 1996.
On the other hand, the coastal city of Kobe, central Japan, joined the cities that declared mourning for Bryant.
Bryant was appointed as the ambassador to the coastal city in 2001, where he visited it three years before that date to donate to the victims of the earthquake that struck it in 1995.
For his part, Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, and Barack Obama, the former President, commented on Twitter for Bryant's social media.
Bryant, 41, died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas outside Los Angeles, killing eight other people, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, officials said.
According to US media reports, John Toubeli, a former baseball coach, his wife and daughter, were among the victims of the accident.
